    • … you! You are more than welcome to book in and bring yourself, funding your sessions personally. • At The Health Effort, we understand the privilege and responsibility of sitting with the vulnerabilities of others. We see our primary function to remove obstacles that stand in the way of your natural growth and healing process.

We focus on targeting the symptoms that you’re experiencing that are impacting you the most, and providing the support to work through them. Our model of care considers emotional suffering to be an inevitable and sometimes very important part of the human experience. We try to work with this humanness and build your psychological strength and flexibility. We are not in the “fixing” business, as experiencing suffering is not indicative of being “broken”. Although it might feel like it, there is nothing wrong with you – you’re just having a really hard time.

Therapy involves a fairly unique kind of relationship that is very focused on you specifically. Because of this your experience of this process will be different to others. We will tailor your sessions to work with whatever you bring. In saying that, we always have a plan. We will make sure we are on track with what you want, and keep you in the loop along the way!

  • At The Health Effort we strongly believe in health and wellbeing promotion. We see our role as not only to assist with functioning during times of crisis but are well-versed in assisting individuals reach their full potential.

Psychologists are well known for their experience with thoughts and feelings, lesser known is their training in behaviour and in particular, health behaviour.

  • Consultations are 50mins long to give your psychologist time to prepare and to reflect and consolidate on the sessions.

    First Session

This is where we get to know you, and we ensure you understand what you’re signing up for. During this session we get all the fine print signed and settle into hear what has been happening that brought you in. Your psychologist will do so much listening in this session. Normally these sessions go one of two ways

    1. Information will waterfall out of you

    1. You might not know what to say

If you’re more like no. 1, then we probably won’t interrupt unless there is something critical that we need to know. If you’re more like no. 2, then don’t worry, we got you. We will guide you through the process every step of the way.

We will also leave room to collaborate on session planning, this includes frequency and number of consultations.

  • Across our team of psychologists we use Cognitive Behaviour Therapies such as traditional CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for insomnia (CBTi).

We also adopt transdiagnostic approaches such as Schema Therapy and EMDR.

Our clinicians area also very experienced administered evidence-based pain psychology interventions.
