the psychologists
Our psychologists have a wealth of experience in supporting individuals facing injury of illness that impacts their ability to function. This includes more acute psychological responses to heath diagnosis, accident or injury (physical or psychological), women’s health and supporting the pervasive mental health impact of chronic conditions such as pain or disability.
We also offer general psychological support to those who want to improve their overall functioning and those facing other unexpected life challenges that have been thrown their way.

Individul Sessions
Therapy, treatment, coaching, counselling, talking to someone – there are many ways to describe what a psychology session looks like.
Supervision
Training to be and practicing as a psychologist is demanding. Having a compatible supervisor can help.
Individul Sessions
Coaching and counselling are both supportive practices, but they have a few distinct focuses and approaches.
In essence, counselling focuses on healing and resolving emotional and psychological concerns to enhance overall wellbeing, while coaching is about unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their own performance.
If you’d like to understand a bit more about our approach to counselling and coaching, see our FAQ section below.

We accept referrals from pretty much everyone – but to be a bit more specific, we love to hear from…
… you! You are more than welcome to book in and bring yourself, funding your sessions personally. You may appreciate the option to claim back if you have psychology in your private health cover (sometimes people will book in for their initial session to be able to have a bit of a fit-check, no strings attached, before speaking to their GP or other support team).
… GP’s, who can initiate Medicare support via a Mental Health Treatment Plan. GP’s can also recommend psychological support for workers compensation.
… other specialist doctors such a psychiatrists or occupational physicians.
… NDIS stakeholders (self and plan managed) – we will take the time to ensure that we can appropriately assist.
… workplace rehabilitation providers and insurers – we work a lot with accidents, injury, adjustment and rehabilitation. That’s our jam.
… organisations – we can provide coaching, or EAP style services – if this sounds like something your workers would benefit from, please get in touch.
If this sounds like you, please hit us up and we will be in touch to answer any questions you might have or book your first appointment.

At The Health Effort, we understand the privilege and responsibility of sitting with the vulnerabilities of others. We see our primary function to remove obstacles that stand in the way of your natural growth and healing process.
We focus on targeting the symptoms that you’re experiencing that are impacting you the most, and providing the support to work through them. Our model of care considers emotional suffering to be an inevitable and sometimes very important part of the human experience. We try to work with this humanness and build your psychological strength and flexibility. We are not in the “fixing” business, as experiencing suffering is not indicative of being “broken”. Although it might feel like it, there is nothing wrong with you – you’re just having a really hard time.
Therapy involves a fairly unique kind of relationship that is very focused on you specifically. Because of this your experience of this process will be different to others. We will tailor your sessions to work with whatever you bring. In saying that, we always have a plan. We will make sure we are on track with what you want, and keep you in the loop along the way!
